On the ground, we map visual references onto specific terrain, the Sahara at Merzouga, the Atlas Mountains, the Atlantic coast at Essaouira, the ancient medinas, and flag where standing sets at Atlas Studios or CLA Studios in Ouarzazate can reduce build cost. We also weigh seasonal light, with Morocco offering more than 300 sunny days a year, and practical factors such as crowd openings and access, so the concept a production carries into funding reflects what can actually be filmed.

Here is the short of it. Morocco has inspired filmmakers for more than a century. A strong concept can draw directly on that heritage. The country has doubled for Tibet in Scorsese's 'Kundun', for Somalia in 'Black Hawk Down', for ancient Rome and Jerusalem in 'Gladiator' and 'Kingdom of Heaven', and for the fantasy world of HBO's 'Game of Thrones'. Homegrown auteurs Nabil Ayouch and Maryam Touzani have shown how Moroccan stories reach global audiences. With Touzani's 'The Blue Caftan' competing at Cannes 2022.
