On Location

We place gaffers and grips for Moroccan productions, lighting and rigging crews experienced in desert exteriors, studio builds and large-scale epic production.

Here is how this works in practice. Our team supplies gaffers and grips who handle the lighting and rigging on Moroccan shoots. We brief them on the practical conditions: shaping and supplementing the strong natural light of desert sets, rigging in heat and wind, building lighting setups inside the standing sets of Atlas, CLA and Kanzaman Studios, and supporting camera moves across uneven desert terrain.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. On the ground, Gaffers and grips we place run the lighting and grip departments, manage power packs and power at remote locations, build and operate cranes, dollies and rigs, and execute the DP's lighting plan across studio and location. They work closely with the camera department and the production manager, manage crews safely around action and crowds, and protect gear in demanding desert conditions. Most are fluent in French, Arabic and English. This makes top the multilingual crews Moroccan shoots assemble efficient.

Here is how this works in practice. Morocco's lighting and grip crews are deeply skilled, a capacity built over decades of hosting large-scale epics from the Ouarzazate base — 'Ouallywood' — where crews learned to rig and light vast period sets and demanding desert sets. The studios at Atlas, CLA and Kanzaman support full-scale lighting and grip operations. The ISMAC in Rabat trains film pros. All production runs within the CCM framework: foreign shoots obtain CCM authorisation and partner with a CCM-licensed local production-services firm. With lighting and grip kit imported on ATA Carnets clearing Customs through the ADII. The gaffers and grips we place work fluently within that structure across Morocco's studios and remote locations.

FAQ

Our Lighting Network

What does a gaffer do on set?

Here is the breakdown. The gaffer is the head of the electrical/lighting department, responsible for executing the DP's lighting vision. They design lighting setups, manage the electric crew, set up gear, and make sure safe power distribution across the production.

What crew positions are in a lighting department?

A full lighting department has: Gaffer (department head), Best Boy Electric (gaffer's assistant, manages crew and gear), Electricians/Sparks (set up and operate lights), and on larger shoots, Rigging Gaffers and Generator Operators.

Do your lighting crews bring their own equipment?

Crew and gear are mostly separate. We can set up gear packages from Moroccan rental houses to complement your crew booking. Some gaffers have personal gear for smaller shoots.

How many electricians do I need for my production?

Crew size depends on production scale: small shoots may need just a gaffer, medium shoots mostly need gaffer plus best boy and 1-2 electricians, while larger shoots need full departments with rigging crews.

Can your lighting crews work with international DPs?

Yes. Our gaffers are skilled working with global cinematographers and know global terminology, techniques, and workflow expectations.

Do you provide generators and power distribution?

We set up power packs hire and distribution gear through our Moroccan rental partners. Power packs operators can be had in crew packages for shoots needing major power infrastructure.
