Here is how this works in practice. A Director of Photography shapes the visual narrative of a production through creative decisions about lighting, camera movement, lens selection, and composition. Morocco's legendary Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate — the largest film studio complex in the world — and its varied landscapes from Saharan dunes to Atlas Mountains have hosted shoots from Gladiator to Game of Thrones, with local DPs pro in managing the region's intense desert and mountain light.

Here is the short of it. We connect you with skilled Directors of Photography who know both the creative and practical demands of your production. Whether you are shooting at Atlas Studios or on location in the medinas of Marrakech, our team matches your project with DPs who bring the right visual sensibility, supported by Morocco's CCM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain) and competitive production incentives.

Digital Engagement

On Location

Morocco's Directors of Photography draw on more than sixty years of feature experience around Ouarzazate, Atlas Studios and CLA Studios, plus the famously consistent desert light that has shaped cinematography from 'Lawrence of Arabia' to 'Gladiator'.

Here is how this works in practice. We connect shoots with Moroccan and worldwide credited Directors of Photography who know how to translate a brief into a coherent visual language on the ground. Our DPs work fluently across the country's compact range — Sahara dunes at Merzouga. The Erg Chebbi, the gorges of the Dades and Todgha, the High Atlas, and the medinas of Marrakech and Fez — building shot lists, lens packages and lighting plans that account for radically different looks within short drives.

Here is how the picture comes together. On the ground, Each DP works with closely with the camera department, gaffer and grip teams during prep, attends tech scouts, and leads on set with full planning of focus pullers, operators and digital imaging technicians. The Ouarzazate crew base is among the most skilled in the world for historical-epic and desert work, so a DP can be matched with department heads who have shot together repeatedly, reducing risk on demanding schedules.

Here is the short of it. Morocco gives more than 300 sunny days a year. Our DPs plan around that light rather than fighting it — timing key scenes to the warm low sun of early morning and late afternoon. Using negative fill, large overheads and bounce to control the hard midday source. Summer desert shooting brings heat above 40°C, dust and the risk of sandstorms, all of which a DP factors into camera protection, magazine handling and backup scheduling, while winter brings snow to the High Atlas and Oukaïmeden.

Here is what we have to work with. On the ground, Foreign shoots work through a CCM-licensed local production-services partner. With the CCM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain) administering permits and a 30% cash rebates on qualifying Moroccan spend. Our team makes sure the DP's gear requests align with ready rental stock and that work permits for incoming cinematographers are processed in good time.

FAQ

Our DP Network

What experience levels of DPs do you provide?

Here is the breakdown. We give DPs across all experience levels: emerging cinematographers for indie and low-budget projects, mid-level DPs with solid commercial and documentary credits, and senior DPs with feature film and global broadcast experience. We match experience to your budget and project needs.

How do you match DPs to projects?

We review your creative brief, reference materials, and budget to shortlist DPs with relevant genre experience and aesthetic alignment. You receive curated showreels and can request direct conversations with candidates before booking.

What camera systems do your DPs work with?

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Our DPs are proficient across all major cinema camera systems including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, Blackmagic, and Canon cinema lines. Many specialize in specific systems but all are adaptable to production needs and rental availability.

Do DPs come with their own equipment?

Some owner-operator DPs bring personal camera packages, while others work with rented gear. We set up gear sourcing based on your preference and budget, whether through DP-owned gear, rental houses, or production-given gear.

Can you provide international DPs for shoots in Morocco?

Yes. We can source global DPs for shoots in Morocco, handling work permits and logistics. We also give Moroccan DPs for global shoots needing local cinematography talent abroad.

What's included in DP day rates?

Standard DP day rates cover on-set cinematography services during production hours. Pre-production work (tech scouts, shot listing, meetings) is mostly billed separately. Gear, camera assistants, and late hours are extra based on project scope.

Productions in Morocco that need this often pair it with Steadicam & Gimbal Operators, Drone Videography, and Underwater Camera Operators for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Virtual Production and Production Services.
