Our team helps the gaffer select the modifiers that suit each setup, organises them into grip cases for fast access on set, and supplements with pro materials flown in from Europe when a production needs them. Large overhead frames and silks are in specific heavy demand on Moroccan shoots, because softening and shaping the famously hard desert sun is one of the biggest jobs the lighting and grip departments face on exteriors at Ait Benhaddou and across the Merzouga dunes.

Here is the breakdown. Morocco's climate drives modifier strategy. More than 300 sunny days a year and very high contrast mean oversized diffusion butterflies, solids for negative fill and bounce surfaces are used constantly to control daylight rather than add to it. The practical challenge is the desert itself: high winds and sandstorms make large fabric frames a serious rigging consideration, so we supply wind-rated configurations, ample sandbags and brief crews on securing overhead textiles in gusty conditions.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. On the ground, Fine sand soils diffusion and bounce materials fast, so modifiers are kept in cases between setups and cleaned or replaced as needed, and cool desert nights bring condensation managed with acclimatised gear.
